Le Travaillant

Le Travaillant plays Cajun music, the dance music of French-speaking Louisiana - perfect for Mardi Gras, crawfish boils, or any other occasion that needs authentic Louisiana atmosphere.

The phrase "Le Travaillant" is Cajun French for "the working man," and its members have a great time living up to that name, playing long sets of upbeat two-steps and waltzes that keep feet energetically moving on the dance floor.

The hard-working men behind the sound are Dorian Gehring (fiddle, accordion), Ethan Sellers (guitar, vocals), Stewart Gehring (lap steel, vocals), Jake Samson (bass), and Pat Buzby (drums). Whenever possible, they are joined by Cajun dance instructor and 'tit fer (Cajun triangle) player Monica Vachlon.

Members of the band had been fans of - and played - Cajun music for years with other projects, but the chemistry between the musicians in Le Travaillant has proven quite appealing to a wide range of audiences throughout the greater Chicago region.

Le Travaillant's ability to scale from a backporch-style acoustic trio to a full-blown Cajun dance band allows it to fit well into a wide range of performance environments.

The band has performed at New Orleans Fest in Chicago, Chicago Botanic Gardens, Kalamazoo College, Maple Tree Inn in Blue Island, Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest, Buddy Guy's Legends, Wilmette Park District's concert series, Reggie's Rock Club, Heaven on Seven Naperville, Ron's Cajun Connection (Utica), Miramar Bistro (Highwood), Careful Peach Boutique's Bastille Day celebration (Oak Park), Red Line Tap, Rockhouse (Wilmette), and private engagements for a wide variety of private events held by private and corporate clients that include the Lake Charles, Louisiana tourism board.
